Canada HBP Program Eligibility 2025 

To participate in the HBP, the applicants:

  • Must have the status of 1st time home buyer. The first time home buyers are those who in the current year prior to the withdrawal in the past 4 calendar years, the resident does not occupy the home that you or your spouse owned. 
  • A written agreement to get or build a qualifying house must be in place prior to making an HBP withdrawal.
  • Your Canadian residency is needed from the time of withdrawal until the acquisition of the qualifying home. 
  • The resident must have intention to acquire the house as their primary residence within 1 year of acquisition or construction. 
  • If the resident has previously participated in the plan then they can do the same if their HBP balance is zero on withdrawal’s year 1st January. 

How To Withdraw $60,000 Funds From RRSPs?

The resident needs to fill out Form T1036. Every time the resident makes withdrawal, they need to fill out a form.  Following filling out Form T1036 Area 1 then that needs to be submitted to the RRSP issuer. Then the issuer will fill out the Area 2. The residents can make more than one withdrawal but the total must not be over $60,000. 

How To Repay Withdrawn $60,000 RRSPs Funds?

The residents need to repay the funds within 15 years and the repayment begins the second year after the withdrawal year. Each year, the resident needs to repay at least 1/15 of the total withdrawn amount whether it is $60000 or less. There is a temporary repayment relief where his 15 years start repayment period can be deferred to additional 3 years. This is only for those who make their first withdrawal between 1st January, 2022 to 31st December, 2025. It means that if someone is making withdrawal in 2025 then they can defer their 15 years period with additional 3 years.
