CRA 5 Key Announcements For Seniors In 2025
Changes In CPP Contribution Rates:
- The YMPE 2025 will be $71,300 which up forms $68,500. The Basic exemption amount will be the same for 2025 which is $3,500. The employer & employee Contribution rate for CPP will be 5.95% and the maximum contribution for 2025 will be $4,034.10 which is up from $3,867. The self employed Contribution rate for CPP will be 11.90% and the maximum contribution for 2025 will be $8,068.20 which is up from $7,735.
- The YAMPE 2025 will be $81,200 which is up from $73,200. The pensionable earnings from $71,300 and $81,200 are subject to the CPP2 contributions. The employer & employee Contribution rate for CPP2 will be 4.00% and the maximum contribution for 2025 will be $396.00 which is up from $188.00. The self employed Contribution rate for CPP2 will be 8.00% and the maximum contribution for 2025 will be $792.00 which is up from $376.00.
CPP/OAS Indexation Adjustments:
As like other years, the CRA has made indexation adjustments to the CPP and OAS Payments. As per the inflation data and CPI Data, the CRA has made changes to the OAS and CPP amounts. The CPP has been raised to $1433 from $1364.60. This means that the CPP Retirement payments have been increased by $68.4 per month. The Old age benefits are adjusted quarterly and for the first quarter, the CRA has not raised the amounts. The same December 2024 amounts will be followed and these amounts are $727.67 for the seniors with age 65 years till 74 years and $800.44 for the seniors with age 75 years or more.
OAS Delaying Benefits:
The OAS claimants can delay their payments till age 70 years. If the OAS beneficiaries delay their payments till 75 years then there is no advantage.
